If my voice doesn't sound up to scratch in this video, it's because I've been sick all week.

Today marks thirteen years since we first came to YouTube, and today we have quite the celebration. People who have followed this channel know my enthusiasm for private space exploration. After a four month journey, the privately owned Beresheet lander has reached the Moon... unfortunately it didn't land in one piece. On one hand, I'm very disappointed that we didn't a private Moon landing. On the other hand, and I never thought I'd say this, but I'm glad it crashed. Even though it was a private mission, the Israeli government doesn't deserve to brag about the success of its citizens. All the Israeli government represents to me is a regime known for decimating and brutalizing of innocent Palestinians.

Still, I need to remind myself that the Beresheet had nothing to do with the Israeli government. It was purely a venture by US and Israeli civilians. The combined efforts of SpaceX and SpaceIL has shown what the world's civilian population is truly capable of. We can send probes to the Moon without any government assistance. It's only a matter of time before a private unmanned landing on the Moon will follow.

And SpaceX has taken a step closer to making space affordable to everyone. On the same day the Beresheet crashed, SpaceX launched the Falcon Heavy and successfully recovered all three first stage boosters. It is truly a great day for private space exploration.
